NEAT in Derby City
Today marks the official launch of Louisville, KY! Rachel Sowell is one of our newest NEAT girls and we can’t wait for you to meet her!
NM :: Welcome Rachel! What made you want to launch NEAT Louisville?
RS :: I believe strongly that an organized home allows you the freedom and flexibility to spend more time focusing on what you want to do instead of what you have to do. Knowing where things are and having a beautifully maintained space just makes life easier, and I see that everyday with my clients. I am so excited to launch Louisville and help people in my hometown find a simpler and happier life with more time to spend enjoying our incredible community!
NM :: What did you do before you started NEAT?
RS :: I’ve actually been working in the Columbus, OH market as a Lead Organizer for NEAT for the last two years. But before that I was a freelance videographer and editor! I did everything from small movies to webseries to weddings and even shot a documentary in India! It was a lot of fun, but never fulfilled me quite as much as the NEAT life has.
NM :: How long have you lived in Louisville?
RS :: I actually haven’t lived in Louisville for the last 6 years, but I was raised there and am so excited to return to my hometown!
NM :: What makes Louisville so special?
RS :: Louisville is a great mix of everything. It has so much small town charm and southern hospitality, but also a really unexpected cosmopolitan vibe. Horse farms are only a ten minute drive away from trendy bars and an amazingly rich arts scene. There are so many festivals for every interest (there was even one dedicated just to the movie “The Big Lebowski”), the best fireworks show in the world and more incredible restaurants than you can reasonably visit in a year.
NM :: Where are your favorite places to shop in the city?
RS :: I am huge fan of antiquing and always spend my weekends in Louisville hitting up my favorite antique and second hand shops with my mom. We love visiting Crazy Daisy, Butchertown Market and Peddler’s Mall for truly unique pieces. When I left home, Nulu was just starting to come into its own. I love visiting Scout and Red Tree and am so excited to visit all of the new shops that have opened up!
NM :: What about your favorite places to eat?
RS :: I absolutely love to eat and Louisville has some of my favorite restaurants I crave Havana Rumba on a weekly basis. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner at Brasserie Provence and our friends still rave about it to this day. We love Please and Thank You, Garage Bar, Blue Dog, Wild Eggs, Artesano, and Stevens and Stevens Deli. So many incredible restaurants have opened since I left though and we already have a list of places to try!
NM :: We’d love to see your most organized space… what is it?
RS :: My closet is the only space in the house that my husband doesn’t also use, so I’m able to keep it looking exactly the way I want. Having everything tidy in there makes getting ready for the day so much easier!
NM :: What about your least organized space and tell us what the heck happened.
RS :: My guest room closet. It started as a pretty organized space for wrapping paper and home decor, but quickly became the dumping ground for anything we don’t use often enough to warrant a home.
NM :: What do you think is going to be your favorite part of running NEAT Louisville?
RS :: I love the community in Louisville and the emphasis on local business. I am so excited to connect with other businesses and everyone in the community.
NM :: What can people expect when they hire you to organize their home?
RS :: You can always expect a judgementfree experience with open communication about what’s most important. Everyone uses their spaces differently and I want to make sure the way it is organized reflects that! At the end of the day, my job is about making my client’s life easier and I won’t stop until I’ve done that!
NM :: Do you have any hidden talents that we should know about?
RS :: I have a shockingly good sense of direction. I can find my way around any city you drop me, which comes in handy as I love to travel!
NM :: As a new business owner, do you have a business that you admire?
RS :: I love businesses that engage with their communities and focus on positivity. A staple in Columbus in Jeni’s Ice Cream. I love this brand so much I convinced my husband to go work for them! What’s happier than ice cream?! I love their attention to detail, the focus on high quality products and amazing customer service, and the intentionality of their brand.
We are so excited for you to join the NEAT team and take the charge in Lousville!
xx
