Hey Milwaukee, NEAT is coming for ya!
Whether you know this city for it's beer, Harley Davidsons or music festivals, that's all about to change now that NEAT's in town! When Liz introduced herself to us, we knew it was meant to be! We can't wait for you to get to know her and what makes her the perfect NEAT girl for the home of the cheese heads!
NM:: Hi Liz!! We know why you love NEAT but can you tell our readers why you wanted to launch it in Milwaukee?
LG: I have always loved to organize spaces! When I was younger, I developed a "laundry room system" for my mom and then again when I became a mom of three with a dog. I am so thrilled to do something I enjoy – I find myself saying "I can't believe this is really a job – I'm having so much fun." And I'm estatic to be my own boss and grow a business.
NM:: It is certainly fun to be your own boss! Speaking of, what did you do before NEAT?
LG:: I've worn a lot of hats – mostly in the public relations, special events and fundraising. I've been a stay-at-home mom, a part-time working mom and a full-time working mom. I'm ready for the opportunity and balance that running my own business will bring.
NM:: What do you think will be your favorite part of running NEAT in Milwaukee?
LG:: I'm excited to bring NEAT's fresh, modern approach for organizing to Milwaukee. I also can't wait to show off Milwaukee and its culture and people to all the other NEAT cities.
NM:: Now that you are running your own business, what business do you admire and why?
LG:: I can't say enough about MY ECO. And really I talk about them every time I go the grocery store. Their 4-in-1 reusable bag system is genius and always attracts a lot of attention when I'm at the store. The bags fit together and are of such high quality and fit perfectly in a shopping cart (what organizer doesn't love that?). In addition, their business takes it a step further and has developed a fundraising program for their bags in partnership with grocery stores. The founder's father designed the plastic grocery bag years ago and now she has taken the bag to the next level with an environmentally responsible and smart product.
NM:: Since you brought up shopping… let's talk about your favorite places to shop in Milwaukee!
LG:: Broadway Paper in the Third Ward is one of the largest stationary stores I've ever been it. It's locally owned and filled with beautiful gifts, wrapping paper and every color and style of paper or notecard you could imagine. My hometown of Cedarburg is filled with amazing shops that I love to pop in and out of. I especially love the local art and home accessories at Bohemia. After having two boys, my daughter and I enjoy a shopping for all things girly at Sydney B in Mequon.
NM:: You know… shopping can build up quite the appetite! Where are your favorite spots to eat??
NM:: It seems as if you know all of the good spots! How long have you lived in Milwaukee?
LG:: I was born and raised in Milwaukee with a few short stops in Minneapolis, Madison, Chicago and Kansas City. I swear I can talk to anyone in this town for 5 minutes and discover a connection we have. I like to say Milwaukee has two degrees of separation instead of six.
NM:: And what do you think makes Milwaukee unique?
LG:: Milwaukee is a tight-knit community with big city opportunity. I think people who visit or move here are often pleasantly surprised by amazing restaurants, festivals, sports and recreation. Plus they love the laid back, friendly people and accessibility of everything to everyone.
NM:: Well nothing like airing your "dirty laundry" to a tigh knit group of people! Tell us about your least organized space – we know you have one!
LG:: It's the inside of my handbag. Specifically my wallet is the worst. When I'm out and about, I'm always in a rush. I've got three kids, and we are often figuring out how to be in five places at once. So when I get a receipt or a flyer or any do-dads – I just shove them in my bag. Then when I'm stuck in a waiting room (usually a doctor's office or waiting at piano lessons), I start sorting through the papers and nonsense that is literally weighing me down.
NM:: We will have to help you with that! 😉 Okay – now time to brag – what space are you loving in your home?
LG:: My linen closet makes me happy. I love having the towels folded a certain way and everything having its place.
NM:: Nice work! So now that we are on this topic, what is your favorite organizing product and why?
LG:: I love, love, love my label maker. I received it as a Christmas gift from my husband and kids a few years ago. Shows you how much I love organizing – it's one of my favorite gifts ever. Now, my eight-year-old daughter loves to make labels as much as I do. She might be on my team in a few years….
NM:: Okay, a little more about you… do you have any hidden talets that client's can expect to see?
LG:: I can twirl a baton (spent a few of my awkward grade school years competitively twirling – yep, that's a thing) but you probably won't see me doing that at a client's home! Also I keep a very neat and tidy baseball scorecard. If you go to a game with me, I will pack a pencil and get down to business.
NM:: We can imagine you making a day at the ballpark business! Are there any blogs you read for pleasure that we should know about?
NM:: Liz, this has been so fun getting to know you! Is there anything that you think a potential client can expect from you if you work together?
LG:: I bring an extremely professional approach while not taking myself or organizing too seriously. I look forward to bringing a breath of fresh air into everyday spaces, so that when people open that messy drawer or junk closet, they will smile instead of cringe. Great organizing lets you spend more time on the things in life that really matter and not get bogged down by your stuff.
NM:: Anything else we need to know?
LG:: I've said it all. At least for now.
