Tip Tuesday :: 5 Steps to Making Your Garage NEAT!
This week, our friends at Monkey Bar Storage are helping us give you the best tips to organize your garage! We know that this is an area that everyone puts off, but today we are going to help you through it so you can enjoy other summer activies – like our favorite, Barbecuing! Monkey Bar, we will let you take it from here!
During summer months the garage is used more often. With kids coming in and out of the house all day, having a garage organization system is a must!
I’m sure by this point many of you are thinking, “ No thanks, even thinking about organizing my garage is overwhelming!” First things first, think positively. Yes, I know this isn’t easy, but you can do it and we are here to show you how! Instead of taking your garage on as a whole, lets try breaking it down into four steps that aren’t so overwhelming. Then, take on a step each day and before you know it, your garage will be organized!
Step 1-Keep or Donate: First, take everything out of your garage. Lie out all of the items and decide if they need to be kept or if they can be donated. Place everything that can be donated in a box and place it in the trunk of your car to donate to the nearest second hand store.
Step 2- Like Things Together: Once you have gone through your garage and decided on those things that should be kept, group like items together. For example, sports gear, camping gear, and holiday decorations would all be separate groups.
Step 3: Low and High Storage: Look through your groups and decide what is going to be used during the summer. Those things that are used the most should be placed at eye level or below and those things that are seasonal or used less often should be stored up high. For example, during the summer, sports gear, pool toys, and bikes are often used. These should be placed at eye level and below, creating easy access. On the other hand, holiday decorations and snow gear can be stored up high and out of the way.
Step 4: Label: Labeling is the key to getting little fingers to put things away! The probability of your child remembering where they got something doubles if it is labeled. (Pro Tip: Having your children help with the labeling by drawing pictures or writing the labels, will create ownership over the project and further increase the chances of them putting things away)
Finally, remember garage organization doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Turn on some upbeat music and make it a project where the whole family can have fun and be involved! By thinking positively and splitting your workload up, organizing your garage can be a great experience instead of a hassle.
Are you as motivated as we are? Now that our garage problems are solved, let the barbecuing begin!
