How to Host the Perfect Derby Party!
With the Kentucky Derby taking place this weekend, we think it is the perfect time to share our "derby" little secrets on how to host the best party! Here are some fun ideas that will have your guests forgetting that they bet it ALL.
First things first, make sure you have the perfect recipe and presentation for your Mint Juleps… and even more important, the perfect amount! Nothing is a bigger buzz kill than too little of something delish.
Preparation :: Combine sugar, water, chopped mint leaves and BOURBON in a glass container and stir until the sugar dissolves. Cover and let stand 4-6 hours.
To Serve :: Strain the bourbon-sugar mixture into a large pitcher and discard the chopped mint. Fill your choice of glass (see below for inspiration) with cracked ice; add bourbon-surar mixture and garnish with mint sprigs.
The food could consist of any or all of the following, and you would be good to go! Don't worry, once your guests have enough bourbon they won't even notice your lack of cooking skills.
– Try a mini version of the traditional Hot Brown sandwich. Find a yummy recipe here.
– These Roasted Brown Butter Pecans?? Ummm…yes please!
And of course, no Derby party is complete without cupcakes that look like these.
Now that we have covered the essentials, next up is the decor. We are kind of digging the idea of a traditional black and white theme with a pop of red. This pic makes for good inspiration, don't you think???
No party is complete without the perfect parting gift. Honestly, we'd be happy if you gave us these even if they were empty. Or you could fill them with mini drink bottles, chocolates, or some of the money you won from picking the winning horse! Woot! Woot!
And how do you pick the Trifecta!? If you want our advice, pick the horse by the name…works every time! With that said… go get 'em Hoppertunity!
